Edward James Scott, known professionally as Ridley Scott, is a British film director, screenwriter, producer, and cinematographer. He is one of the most successful and influential filmmakers in Hollywood history, with a career spanning over five decades.

Ridley Scott was born on December 30, 1937, in Southgate, London, England, to James and Kathleen Scott. His father was an army officer, and his mother was a housewife. Scott grew up in a middle-class family and developed an interest in art and film at an early age.
